Classic Wagons

Classic Wagons: The Pre-1990 Long Roofs

The long roofs that came before the database. Woodgrain, way-backs and rear-facing third rows — from when the wagon was simply what a family car looked like. Figures here are flagged ~ approximate and are being verified against primary sources. The modern list lives in the Wagon Wiki.

Reading the table: Specs are for the representative volume trim of each generation unless noted. HP/Ton is computed (hp ÷ curb weight in US tons). Values marked ~ are approximate and pending verification against primary sources. Imports (never sold new in the US) are badged. See Sources & methodology below.

Sources & Methodology

  • 1 Specifications — horsepower, torque, weight, length, height, 0–60 mph, launch price, engine and transmission — are drawn from period road tests and archival specification catalogs, principally automobile-catalog.com, conceptcarz.com and ultimatespecs.com, cross-referenced with manufacturer documentation. These cars pre-date the EPA online database and each model spanned several engines and model years, so figures are for a representative trim, and US and European market cars often differ in weight and length. Any value marked ~ is approximate and still being verified against a primary source.
